What is Your Limit?
Improving peer-to-peer payment platforms
After hitting a Zelle transfer error in the Chevron Federal Credit Union app—without knowing my daily limit—I questioned why such critical information was hidden. Research confirmed this wasn’t an edge case: surveying 132 users revealed that 77% didn’t know their daily sending limits, and 31% of those who checked struggled to find them. Competitive analysis showed most banks rely on reactive, error-first patterns that frustrate users rather than guide them.

I redesigned CFCU’s Zelle error experience to balance transparency with simplicity. The updated microcopy clearly states the daily timeframe, displays the actual limit, and offers actionable next steps, turning a dead end into an educational moment.

This approach improves awareness without cluttering the interface. Next, I’ll validate the design with the original participants to measure confidence and clarity gains.
Key Takeaway
Thoughtful microcopy can transform moments of failure into moments of clarity—building user confidence without adding interface clutter.
